Biography
Emily Hornbake is currently pursing a Master of Science in Music Education at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music (IU), where she studies with Dr. Brenda Brenner. She has also studied with Sheila Browne at New York University (NYU) and the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA), where she earned a Bachelor of Music in Viola Performance.
Her musical ventures have taken her as both a performer and teacher to Idaho, Alaska, Michigan, Prague, and on tour across Europe as the principal violist for the Florida Ambassadors of Music. Often found in the recording studio, she has played viola at both NYU and UNCSA for film scores, pop music tracks, and video game soundtracks, in addition to more traditional recording projects. In New York City, she performed electric viola with the rock band The Middle Eight at various venues in Manhattan and Brooklyn.
Emily began teaching violin and viola privately during her undergraduate studies, and currently has a studio at Melody Music Shop in Bloomington, IN. While at IU, she has worked with both the Fairview String Project and the IU String Academy under the supervision of Dr. Brenda Brenner and Mimi Zweig. Currently, Emily is student teaching at North Central High School with Craig Ghormley. She looks forward to graduating in December and beginning to teach strings in her own classroom.
